Emanuel Lundgren’s recommendation: “Every 10 years or so I hear something that makes me think about music in a new way. When I first heard Sparklehorse it was a moment like that. Mark’s whispering voice, the surreal lyrics and the beautiful melodies takes you somewhere else – to a different world. Maybe that’s where Mark is now, may he rest in peace.”
New to Sparklehorse? Emanuel recommends you start here: “It’s hard to say where to start, you should really have a listen to all five studio albums. But on It’s a Wonderful Life I think he kind of summarized what Sparklehorse is about, and it also features great guest appearances by Tom Waits, PJ Harvey and Nina Persson.”
About our guest author, Emanuel Lundgren: No, Emanuael is not from Barcelona and we can guess that neither are any of the 27 members of his band, I’m From Barcelona. That’s not a typo folks…the band actually has 27 members (at one point there were 29 members) and they hail from Jönköping, Sweden. The band was formed in 2005 and they have since released one EP and three full length albums. Their latest release, 27 Songs dropped this past January and features one solo recording from each of the members of the band. (Emaunel was inspired by the Kiss project where each member released a solo record back in the day. I think we can safely say that I’m From Barcelona has one-upped the Kiss clan.) The songs are available for free on the I’m From Barcelona website and for purchase on triple vinyl (tres cool!!). Support this massive band by catching them live, buying some wax or just by spreading the word.
